Following the epic conclusion of “Blades of Destiny,” this second installment picks up immediately where we left off. Breanna shows off her fearlessness early in this second book as she escapes the Dreadlord’s sprawling rind fort, Dun Garm, and finds herself on the run. Breaking out her chief, Breanna continues her quest with Eion, Fergal, and her half-brother Braoin in tow. Escaping on the waters of Loch Ree, they evade their pursuers until they’re forced to seek land. Soon, encountering five mounted Dreadlord warriors, the power, confidence, and heroism of Breanna are wholly and spectacularly on display. Author James Raquepau continues to showcase his expertise in weaving magic, Gaelic lore, and heroism in this second book. Combining magical relics with the intrigue of Breanna’s heroic quest, readers remain enchanted throughout. Expanding the role of Ćroí Dàn, Breanna is proclaimed as the Heart of Destiny’s chosen one, Erin’s Hero. As this heart-shaped ruby pendant rests upon Breanna’s neck, tucked within her tunic, the little goddess cast within takes on an integral role as her magical sidekick. “Stone of Destiny” allows readers to explore the Emerald Isle further as Breanna traverses the land. Readers witness the bonds and relationships beginning to form and deepen amongst the characters. Leveraging Guestright, Breanna’s band is invited to join the high table as they garner a host of supporters within Dun Uisneach, before they continue their quest to rid the land of the Dreadlord. Noting the presence of Ćroí Dàn and her choosing Breanna as Erin’s Hero, her new supporters follow her as she seeks the Dark Goddess. Within the Fairie Realm, Breanna Ban Morna is given Lia Dàn, the Stone of Destiny, by Danu. If she’s to be successful in riding the lands of the Norsemen, it will come with a great sacrifice. Glimpsing fragments of resentment boiling briefly under the surface, we may foreshadow the smell of trouble yet to come as well. Falling further under Raquepau’s spell, he continues to captivate with his characters, their connections and the lands they navigate in “Lia Dàn – Stone of Destiny.” Glued to the series, I look forward to “Ćroí Dàn – Heart of Destiny,” the third book in the series.
